DESCRIPTION
Kathak is one of the major forms of classical dance in India. The word �Kathak� signifies to tell a story. Kathak is found in three distinct forms or Gharanas - Jaipur, Banaras, and Lucknow Gharana based on the cities where the Kathak dance tradition evolved. Moumita Banerjee received her Master of Performing Arts (MPA) degree in Kathak from Bhatkhande Music Institute, Lucknow in Lucknow and Jaipur Gharanas following her Bachelor of Music (B.Mus) degree from Banaras Hindu University (BHU). She has learned under legendary Gurus like Pandit Birju Maharaj, Prof. Kumkum Dhar, Prof. Bina Singh, and Dr. Ranajana Shrivastava in Lucknow and Banaras.
